Ecosystems matter! Healthy ecosystems are crucial to heal our Planet.

OUR PLANET HAS DIVERSE ECOSYSTEMS
🌏 An “ecosystem” is all the living organisms in a physical space and their interactions with each other and their surroundings.
🌍 Our Planet has 9 ecosystem types: Mountains; Oceans and Coasts; Freshwaters (rivers and lakes); Forests; Peatlands; Shrublands and Savannahs; Grasslands; Farmlands; and Urban Areas (towns and cities).

ECOSYSTEMS MATTER!
🕸️ Ecosystems support all life, human and non-human.
🩺 So, healthy ecosystems = healthy People and healthy Planet!
🐾 Ecosystems provide: a stable climate; breathable air; water, food, energy, and materials; support for human livelihoods; protection from disease and disaster; and home to wildlife and biodiversity.

ECOSYSTEM DEGRADATION THREATENS PEOPLE & PLANET
🤢 “Ecosystem degradation”, a long-term negative trend in ecosystem condition, is real and happening around the world. 75%+ of earth’s land areas are substantially degraded!
⚠️ It is caused by climate change and human activities.
‼️  It negatively impacts biodiversity, climate, and human health. Especially, it drives habitat loss, which is the single greatest threat to non-human species and the leading cause of the extinction crisis.

WE NEED ECOSYSTEM RESTORATION!
🛑 We urgently need “ecosystem restoration”, defined by the United Nations (UN) as the process of stopping and reversing degradation.
👥 The UN has declared 2021-2030 the “Decade on Ecosystem Restoration” and launched #GenerationRestoration, “a global movement to restore ecosystems everywhere”.
🛟 Restoring ecosystems will help to solve the extinction-climate crisis, benefitting People and the rest of nature!
