CODE RED FOR HUMANITY
🚨 2021 was declared “code red for humanity” by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.
‼️ We face twin catastrophes: biodiversity loss (“biodiversity crisis”) and climate change (“climate crisis”).
🏞 Solving these crises requires expanding protected areas.

BIODIVERSITY & CLIMATE CRISES
⚠️ 1M species are at risk of extinction this century, primarily caused by habitat (especially rainforest) destruction.
⚠️ 1/4 of greenhouse gas emissions are caused by habitat loss and deforestation. 2/3 of tropical forests have been lost to deforestation, 80,000 acres of rainforest disappear each day, 1 acre is lost every second, and 2.64 gigatons of C02 are released into the air, further disrupting our climate.

SOLUTION: EXPANDING PROTECTED AREAS
✅ Creating protected areas, especially rainforests and other tropical habitats, is the simplest, most cost-effective way to fight the biodiversity and climates crises. Why?
✅ Greatest concentrations of endangered species are sustained by tropical habitats and 50% of world’s biodiversity is found in rainforests!
✅ Forests cost-effectively remove carbon from air and keep it stored, rainforests store billions of tons of carbon, and each tropical forest acre stores as much as 400 metric tons of C02 equivalent!

RAINFOREST TRUST’S PROTECTED AREAS
🤝 We are proud corporate partners of Rainforest Trust, which focuses action on “biodiversity hotspots”.
🔒 Since 1988, it has sponsored creation of 37M acres of protected areas worldwide, saving 2,245 endangered and vulnerable species!
