How can you build your connection to nature? With random acts of wildness!
WHAT IS A “RANDOM ACT OF WILDNESS”?
🌏 30 Days Wild, an annual event hosted by The Wildlife Trusts, is the UK's biggest nature challenge.
🎬 People sign up and try 1 "random act of wildness" every day, for 30 days in June.
👏 Very popular, with 1 million+ participants so far.
WHY DOES IT MATTER?
❤️ Lucy McRobert, author of the book “365 Days Wild”: “A lot of little random acts of wildness can lead to something amazing.”
🌳 Craig Bennett, CEO, The Wildlife Trusts: "People need easier access to vibrant, life-affirming wilderness" because "there's a huge public appetite for more connection to nature".
☘️ Dr Miles Richardson, Director of Psychology at Derby University, which has been studying 30 Days Wild since its 2015 launch: “We’ve repeatedly found that taking part…improves health, happiness, nature connection and conservation behaviours”.
3 RANDOM ACTS OF WILDNESS
🐤 Listen to birds: birdsong helps us recover from stress and refocus our attention.
🚲 Exercise outside: harder workout, improves self-esteem, relieves stress, and increases exposure to sunlight, which enhances vitamin D intake (improves mood, helps bone health, and boosts immune system).
🐞 Hunt for bugs: great way for kids to practice science and learn that creepy crawlies aren’t “icky”.
